You're Incredible

Hi there!

Jean here with you today and I am so excited to share this card I created using the Beautiful Wings stamps and dies from the new Anniversary release!

I used a no-line water coloring technique to make the dragonfly and when it was done, I was so happy with how it turned out I decided a simple background would be the best way to highlight it.

I started by determining which type of watercolor I wanted to use. Because I really wanted vibrant color I decided that my Zig Clean Color Watercolor Brush Markers would be a good choice.  I did a few test swatches of different markers to get an idea of which colors I wanted to use.  The picture below shows the test swatches I decided on for this card.

Once I had my color palette figured out, I stamped the image using InkOn3 FadeOut ink on watercolor paper.  You could use any light-colored dye ink for this since you are just using the ink as a guide, and it won’t be seen when you are done.

I used my Zig markers to VERY lightly outline each section of the wing and then used the Zig blending marker to carefully pull the ink from the outline into the wing section.  By using a light hand, I was able to get an airy look to the wings.

I worked section-by-section through the entire image – making sure that I waited until a section was dry before water coloring an adjacent section.

Once my image was colored, I let it dry completely, then cut it out with the coordinating die.
I created a sentiment strip using one of the sentiments from the set – heat embossing it in white on black cardstock.

For the background, I used a simple, but elegant, embossing folder to add just a bit of interest without taking away from the dragonfly.

I trimmed my embossed panel and adhered it to my card base using foam tape.  I used foam adhesive to pop up the dragonfly and the sentiment strip and finished the card by adding in a few Silver Tinsel sequins for just a tiny bit of sparkle.

I hope you like this project and that it inspires you try no-line water coloring if you haven’t already!

  1. Lovely coloring. No line water coloring is something I keep practicing. I have a couple of embosing strips and seldom use them for lack of creativity. You show how these can be so effective.
