A Gorgeous Butterfly in the Spotlight
Hi there! Jean here with you today and I am excited to share this card I created using the Beautiful Wings stamp set.
For this card, I wanted to do a spotlight (of sorts )on the gorgeous butterfly stamp that is included in this set. I love large, bold images – they provide lots of room for color and they make a big impact. Also… just a little secret: spotlighting an image is a great way to use larger images without having to create a scene on your card.
To make this card:
- Stamp the butterfly using Copic-friendly ink using your MISTI or other stamping tool. Once stamped, do NOT remove the stamp from your MISTI (you’ll use it again in step #4).
- Color the image using colors of your choice. I chose the more traditional monarch butterfly colors because orange is my favorite color But you can easily switch it up to whatever color you like. If it helps, I used 3 different color groups for my butterfly – a bright orange, a bright yellow, and then a darker orange. Here are the Copic marker colors I used: Y15, Y19, and Y38; YR15, YR16, and YR18; YR04, YR07, and YR09
- Once you have the butterfly colored, go around the outside edge with Copic markers in shades of blue – I used B0000, B000, and B00 to give it just a hint of a blue background. You could skip this step but I like that it makes the image stand out even more.
- Put your image back in your MISTI and re-stamp the black outline of the butterfly. This is a good trick because if you happened to color over the lines, re-stamping darkens the outline again and makes it nice and crisp.
- Die cut your image using any shape you like – I used a square but I think this card could be equally beautiful with an oval or circle!
- Determine your card layout, then stamp a sentiment on your card base – I used one of the stamps from the set and stamped it at the top, above the butterfly.
- Add your butterfly using foam adhesive.
- Die cut a word sentiment. I used a “Beautiful” die from my stash.
- Adhere your word sentiment die cut to a strip of vellum and adhere it to your card front – be careful where you place your glue behind the vellum because it will show through.
What do you think? Do you think spotlighting is something you might try? I hope so! And I hope you share what you create! We would love to see it!
